DUI cases can be complex, because they involve more than just a criminal charge against you. There is also the possibility that you will lose your license, but with the right attorney on your side, you can have the chance to get at least a limited right to drive. This part of a DUI case is the most important to the large majority of DUI defendants, because when your right to drive is taken away so are many of your freedoms. In order to get the best result possible in your DUI case, let a knowledgeable defesne attorney help.

Four things to know about a Florida DUI that will help you to tackle the challenge of defending the case against you are:

  • Upon arrest you will have to spend some time in jail, most times the amount of time spent is approximately 8 hours.
  • Your driver’s license will be taken from you at the scene, and this might leave you wondering how you will be permitted to drive when you are released from jail. The answer is that when your license is taken, you are given a ticket for DUI and part of that ticket is a “paper license” that allows you to drive for the next ten days.
  • You can get a more official looking “license” by making a request for an administrative review of your license revocation within ten days from the date of arrest, this works out nicely because the temporary paper license given to you during the arrest is only good for ten days. This does not mean you will get a limited license within that ten days, and you will probably receive another paper license while you wait for your administrative hearing review.
  • The administrative hearing will usually take place in about 45 days, so your paper license will only be good until that time. Depending on the outcome of your administrative hearing you may be granted a limited right to drive. This limited right gives you the ability to drive to places like school, church, and work.

If you have been arrested for DUI, make sure you act fast. If you miss the ten day deadline to ask for an administrative review of your license suspension, you will lose your right to drive for much longer than ten days. We can help, and know how to request the review as well as how to defend the criminal charges against you.
